Description

New, never run on track, FLY Ref: 88176 and A-1401, Porsche 917 LH (Long Tail) #25, modeled as raced at Le Mans in 1970, driven by Vic Elford and Kurt Ahrens. Elford qualified the car on pole with a 3’:19.8” lap, narrowly edging out the Ferrari 512 S of Vaccarella and Giunti, at 3’:20.0”. Despite being the quickest, particularly on the long Mulsanne straight, the car was forced to retire with engine problems after 225 laps. Film from the 1970 race was used in the movie “Le Mans” starring Steve McQueen. The start of the actual race shows Jo Siffert in 917 #20 surging to the lead, which he briefly held until Elford passed him on the long Mulsanne straight.
