Despite an 8th position start, the endurance challenge proved too much, and the car was retired after the wrong sized piston rings were installed, causing engine failure. The Ferrari 412P was part of Enzo Ferrari's revenge strategy after losing to the Ford manufacturer's team in the 1966 season. This revamped and improved version of the previous P3 managed to do just what it was intended to, beat the rival on their home turf—the 24 Hours of Daytona. Numbered in a limited edition of 1,000.
